Federalist Tip 2: How to Make Local Party Leaders Compete for Your Vote

Increasing Competition in the Two-Party System

· Federalist Tips

What is the predominant party in your district? Whether it's Republican or Democrat or Green Party, be aware of how party politics should work.

No party should have a monopoly on your vote. Each party is a nonprofit corporation. That's right! A 527 organization. Their business is to tie you to them so that they don't have to compete for your vote. As an educated citizen, you want to go to each party every election cycle with the needs of your community. Whichever candidate puts together the best plan to tackle these issues, is the one that you should support. If the candidate wins the seat but reneges on their commitment, you vote them out when the time comes.

Politics should be a results oriented sport, and unreciprocated loyalty is not the name of the game.

Fun fact: Did you know that California voted for Republican presidents from 1952 til 1992? The average state changes its presidential party every 3.81 elections.*
